Green light for the single USB Type-C charger law
February 14, 2023The law will make the USB Type-C charger mandatory for all electronic devices starting in 2024.Due to the evolution of technology, governments around the world agreed last year that new electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, and laptops) manufactured from January 1, 2023 onward must have built-in USB Type-C instead of USB Type-A.
In addition, Directive 2022/2380 of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union establishes that Member States must apply the mandatory USB Type-C port as a universal charger from December 28, 2024.
However, over the next 3-4 years, USB Type-A and Type-C will coexist until older devices stop working, so it is our responsibility to provide USB charging for both options, Type-A and Type-C: first, to give end users the possibility of using one or the other; and second, to prevent our products from becoming obsolete.
